With the Cline fuel pump system the fuel is pressurised from 2 to 12 psi in the fuel tank. This is managed by a one-way valve powered by the crankcase pressure on a 2 stroke or the exhaust pressure on a 4 stroke. The carb fuel line acts on the controller causing it to open the fuel valve. It is a demand fed controller rather than a pump and as the suction from the carb increases so the amount of fuel passed increases. When the engine is stopped no fuel can enter the carb.
